CPOA Donations for 2007
The Cape May Chief Petty Officers Association donated over $11,550 to the local community last year. Cash donations were given to charitable organizations and special events and assistance to Coast Guard personnel and their families. When a solicitation is proposed and it meets the purpose of the CPOA, members then vote on its acceptance. Most of the donations, over $8700, were given back to Coasties. Many of the MWR events such as the funds donations for the kids Christmas Party, Adult Christmas Party, October Fest, Coast Guard Enlisted Association and seventh week recruit pizza party were easily passed as great ideas to help out. Various little league, scouting and charities also have been approved.
Part of the purposes for which the CPOA is formed is to
take care of members and their dependents who may be in urgent need of
assistance, financial or otherwise; to assist in recruiting for the United
States Coast Guard; become involved in community affairs; and to promote social
programs for those in need.
There are many charitable causes and events that the Chapter contributes in other ways as well. CPOA members have organized trash clean ups of the Cape May Elementary School trail, volunteered people and equipment for the Ocean Drive Marathon, and a coat drive for a homeless shelter in Atlantic City.
